TEHRAN (IQNA) – One of the objectives of the annual Arbaeen pilgrimage is renewing allegiance with Imam Hussein’s (AS) honor, dignity and ideals regarding confrontation with oppression and injustice.

Arbaeen march

Through the Arbaeen march, we share this message with the world every year that we will not tolerate and oppression and that we seek boosting interaction and dialogue with the Muslim world and with the global community.

There are different ideas about the philosophy of the Arbaeen march and pilgrimage to the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS). According to one viewpoint, the objective is to seek healing in this world and Shafa’a (intercession) in the hereafter.

Another one says the love between God and Imam Hussein (AS) was manifested on the day of Ashura. And according to another one, Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice was important in the event of Ashura.

In the Arbaeen rituals we also see a great movement against monopoly and centralization of power and wealth in the Muslim world. Yazid wanted to monopolize wealth and power and that is why he sought pledge of allegiance from Imam Hussein (AS). This shows the violent attempt to monopolize everything during the reign of Umayyads, especially Yazid.

The more our understanding of the Arbaeen pilgrimage grows and the more properly we can promote the philosophy of Arbaeen, the more profound and lasting effects it will have. Two points can be emphasized about the philosophy of Arbaeen. One is the renewal of allegiance with Husseini dignity and honor, meaning that we will not tolerate oppression and monopoly.

Spending for the Arbaeen pilgrimage is quite appropriate as is spending for the Hajj pilgrimage and trips to Mecca and Medina.

Also, holding mourning rituals for Imam Hussein (AS) martyrdom is of great importance because it is a reminder of the struggle against oppression and injustice and it should not be forgotten.

The Arbaeen ceremony is very influential. If we want its effects to continue throughout the year, we should certainly have planning.
