TEHRAN (IQNA) – Nigerian Shia cleric Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky censured the world’s indifference to the crimes being committed against the people of Yemen.

Nigerian Cleric Slams World Silence on Crimes Committed against Yemen

Addressing an online forum discussing different dimensions of the aggression on Yemen, he said war is a conflict between two military forces but what is happening in Yemen is committing crimes against humanity, Abarat TV reported.

The webinar was organized by the Arbaeen International Foundation on Saturday and broadcast on Abarat TV.

He said so many aerial bombardments, killings of women and children in homes, schools and workplaces and attacking school buses, hospitals and jails cannot be considered normal wars.

Zakzaky said the Saudi-led coalition that has waged the war on the impoverished country seeks to return the fugitive former president to power but the result of the aggression is only killing innocent people.

He called on world countries to help to resolve the crisis and save the innocent people.

The senior cleric added that the crimes seen in Nigeria, Libya, Iraq and Syria are similar to those in Yemen, stressing that all of these plots hatched in different countries by Western powers are aimed at protecting the Zionist regime of Israel.

Saudi Arabia, backed by the US and regional allies, launched the war on Yemen in March 2015, with the goal of bringing the government of fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi back to power and crushing the popular Ansarullah movement.

The war has left hundreds of thousands of Yemenis dead, and displaced millions more. It has also destroyed Yemen’s infrastructure and spread famine and infectious diseases.

Yemeni armed forces and the Popular Committees have grown steadily in strength against the Saudi-led invaders and left Riyadh and its allies bogged down in the country.
