TEHRAN (IQNA) – A senior Lebanese scholar underlined that the best policy to counter enemy onslaughts on Islam and desecration of Islamic sanctities is strengthening Muslim unity.

Speaking to IQNA in an interview on the occasion of the Islamic Unity Week, Secretary General of the International Union of Resistance Scholars Sheikh Maher Hammoud said it is discord and disunity among Muslims that leads to enemies’ dominance.

“If Muslims were truly united, Israel would not dare to keep its occupation of Palestinian territories, and the US would not dare dominate the oil, resources and wealth of the West Asia region’s countries and interfere in their internal affairs.”

He stressed that once Muslims get united truly, the world arrogance, colonialists and others would never dominate the Muslim world.

Sheikh Hammoud added that unity would also help Muslim communities to move toward progress.

When they cooperate under the banner of unity, Muslims’ skills, capabilities, capacities and sciences are linked and this strengthens them in political, economic and security areas, among others, he said.

The 17th day of Rabi al-Awwal, which falls on November 3 this year, is believed by Shia Muslims to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), while Sunni Muslims regard the 12th day of the month as the birthday of the last prophet.

The interval between the two dates is celebrated every year as the Islamic Unity Week.

Late Founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran Imam Khomeini (RA) declared the occasion as the Islamic Unity Week back in the 1980s.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Lebanese cleric touched on the recent desecrations of Islamic sanctities and said Muslims must adopt a united stance against such moves.

He noted that Secretary General of the Lebanese Hezbollah resistance movement Sayed Hassan Nasrullah recently proposed the idea of taking legal action against those insulting Islam and other faiths and the idea was welcomed by the Imam of Egypt’s Al-Azhar Islamic Center and other Muslim world figures.

Sheikh Hammoud also said that French President Emmanuel Macron’s move to voice support for desecration of the Holy Prophet of Islam (PBUH) in the name of freedom of speech was taken at the order of the Zionists.

Macron has been at the center of global criticism from the Muslim community following his controversial statements insulting Islam and Prophet Mohammad (PBUH). His comments have sparked protests and calls for a boycott of French products by some Muslim countries.
