TEHRAN (IQNA) – A large number of people stood in a queue for hours on the weekend to buy a copy of the Quran printed in the country for the first time.

According to the Sadi al-Balad website, the copy has been printed by the Hilul Publication of Uzbekistan with a permission from Egypt’s Dar al-Salam Publication.

Some 250 copies were sold within half an hour, the report said.

This is the first time an Uzbek publication prints copies of the Holy Book.

Until now, Quran copies sold in Uzbekistan were printed in the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf.

Uzbekistan is a doubly landlocked country in Central Asia.

Islam is the dominant religion in Uzbekistan. According to some estimates, nearly 90 percent of the country’s population is Muslims.
