TEHRAN (IQNA) - Twitter has seen tremendous festivity, during the holy month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, through interactions of Muslims and non-Muslims, including heads of state and celebrities.

According to Al Jazeera.net website, there were over 8.4 billion impressions of Tweets about Ramadan on Twitter throughout the holy month.

Since the beginning of the holy month, Twitter introduced three special hashtag icons for #Ramadan, #Iftar and #Eid al-Fitr. Users who include these hashtags in their tweets – in either Arabic or English – will see a crescent moon, a glass of water, or a piece of calligraphy (Eid Mubarak) appear alongside their message.

A blog post from Twitter on Sunday announced that it provided throughout the holy month of Ramadan a unique platform for people across the world to come together and celebrate Ramadan. It added that over 1.6 billion people across the world celebrated Eid al-Fitr and the end of Ramadan this week.

Twitter noted that in Indonesia, the largest Muslim-populated country, the Twitter users celebrated the month by sharing Lebaran hashtag. Lebaran is a popular name for Eid al-Fitr in Indonesia.

Twitter  published an "interactive map' showing the global conversation around Ramadan that took place on Twitter during the past month.
