TEHRAN (IQNA) - A seminar on “Quranic Readings” was held on July 3 at Al-Rafidin Association of Culture and Civilization in the holy city of Karbala.

According to almadapaper.net, the program began with a speech presented by Abbas Al-Tamimi, director of the organizing committee, who highlighted the importance of Quran readings in Muslims' life.

He noted that the Holy Quran is the main pivot of unity among Muslims and although the Quranic verses are read in different styles, a correct interpretation should be presented for each style to maintain this unity.

The program was also addressed by Ali Abdul Fattah Al-Hasnawi, dean of the Faculty of Quranic Studies at The University of Babylon.

He elaborated on the origins of different Quran readings from the early Islamic period and the causes and the results of the differences.

Al-Hasanwi said that different inferences from the Quranic verses are the result of different readings of the verses and have nothing to do with the true text of the revelation.

He referred to the biased reading of the Quran by the Jews of the early Islamic period, adding that today, too, the enemies of Islam and Muslims insult the Holy Quran with the aim of degrading the Divine Book, which has for centuries challenged the unbelievers to bring its like.

Hamid Al-Hilali, political activist and another speaker at the seminar, stressed the importance of the theme of the program and noted that more steps should be taken to clarify different Quranic readings which need true interpretations to prevent the interpretation of Quran according to one’s personal views and opinion.

Referring to the pressing need of the Islamic society to enlightenment and unity, he called upon Muslim scholars to provide new and updated interpretations of Quranic concepts.
