TEHRAN (IQNA) – A prominent Egyptian Quran master regretted that certain hands behind the scene trying to tarnish the image of Iran in the region.

Speaking to IQNA, Master Taha Abdul Wahab underlined that the adversaries of Islam do not want to see Muslim unity because unity among Muslims will frighten the enemies.

Abdul Wahab also referred to the allegations about Iran trying to spread Shi’ism in Egypt as baseless.

He said the Iranian nation’s culture is based on tolerance and respect and there are no prejudices and biases as some suggest.

“When I visit Iran to serve in the jury panel of international Quran contests or to recite Quran in recitation sessions, I feel it that the Iranian nation is one that loves the Quran and seeks to promote its teachings,” he stressed.

The Egyptian master further praised the Islamic Republic for organizing international Quran competitions and inviting Quran activists from different countries, including Egypt.

He added that international Quranic events play a major role in the dissemination of the Quranic culture and the Seerah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Last week, Egyptian Awqaf Ministry’s Spokesman Muhammad Abdul Raziq said Iran, Qatar and Turkey have no representatives in Egypt’s international Holy Quran competition this year.

Abdul Raziq said they were invited to the international Quranic event, which kicked off in Cairo on Saturday, due to the political tensions existing between Egypt and the three countries.

Speaking to LTC satellite TV on Saturday, he alleged that Tehran, Doha and Ankara support terrorism and that the Islamic Republic seeks to spread Shia Islam in Sunni-majority Egypt, a claim Iran has always dismissed as unfounded.
