TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) plans to hold an extraordinary meeting to discuss the fight against COVID-19.


It will be organized by the OIC’s Health Committee via videoconference on Thursday, al-Ain news website reported.

The challenges Muslim countries are facing in countering the infectious disease will be the main theme of the event.

OIC Secretary General Yousef Bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen highlighted the importance of the virtual meeting, saying the participants will discuss policies to stop the spread of the virus.

The coronavirus pandemic has sickened more than 1.2 million people worldwide, according to official counts. As of Sunday, at least 66,000 people have died of the disease.
