Quranic Figures Attend Husseini March in Baghdad
Quranic officials and figures as well as people from all walks of life took part in the rally, held on the 26th day of the lunar Hijri month of Muharram to commemorate the movement and uprising of Imam Hussein (AS).
Among the participants were managers of Quranic institutes and centers of Baghdad province.
The march began in Bab al-Murad Street in Kadhimiya and ended at the holy mausoleum of Imam Musa Kadhim, the 7th Shia Imam.
Shia Muslims, and others in different parts of the world, hold ceremonies every year in the month of Muharram to mourn the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions.
The third Shia Imam (AS) and a small group of his followers and family members were martyred by the tyrant of his time - Yazid Bin Moaweya, in the battle of Karbala on the tenth day of Muharram (known as Ashura) in the year 680 AD.
