“We will definitely achieve victory in the face of (US President Donald) Trump,” Rouhani said in an address to military parades held in Tehran to mark the Sacred Defense Week, the anniversary of the start of an Iraqi imposed war on Iran in the 1980s.

As the enemy failed to reach its objectives in the Sacred Defense (1980-1988 Iraqi imposed war), it will be defeated again, he added.

Rouhani further rejected calls for Iran to abandon its missile and other defense programs, stressing that the country will continue to enhance its defense capabilities.

He also highlighted Iran’s influence in the region and its popularity among regional nations.

In Iran, the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war is known as the Sacred Defense, and the Sacred Defense Week is held on the anniversary of the beginning of the war.

Every year, various units representing the Iranian Navy, Air Force, Army Ground Force, Airborne division, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), and Police participate in nationwide parades marking the beginning of the Sacred Defense Week.

The most recent achievements of the Iranian armed forces in missile industry, equipment for the ground, naval and air defense forces as well as communication gear were put on display in the military events.
