Tariq bin Ziyad, who is blind, told IQNA that organizing more such programs for the blind and honoring them with even less precious prizes would be very good and auspicious.

The 35-year-old resident of Eastern Ghouta attended the recitation category of the competition in Iran in April.

Asked about his motivation for entering the field of Quranic activities, he said turning to the Book of God brings dignity for every human being.

“Everything you seek can be found in the Quran,” he said, adding that anyone who treads on the path of the Quran will be honored both in this world and the Hereafter.

“This is what we can see in the life of Imams, Quran reciters and memorizers”.

Tariq then pointed to his Quran memorization, saying his mother sent him to the mosque in their neighborhood for learning the Quran when he was 6.

“I started learning the Quran by heart at the age of 6 and became a Quran memorizer at 11.”

He then received a Quran recitation permission from prominent Quran masters of his country in 2014.

Tariq said he had also attended the international Quran contest in Iran in 2017, finishing in the tenth place.

“I have also taken part in Quran competitions in Damascus and won the third and fourth ranks with the grace of God.”

He described Iran’s international Quranic event as one organized at a high level of quality, saying it originates in the Iranian people’s love for the Book of God.

He added that the participants in the Quranic event were also skillful and highly qualified.

Tariq, who now teaches Quran memorization and recitation to adults in his home country, was asked about teaching the Quran in Syria.

“Quran teaching in Syria is mostly run or supervised by the Assad Quran Memorization Departments that are available in all of the provinces in the country.  There are also many other centers in which Quranic and religious sciences are taught.”

“Unlike Quran teaching methods in some other Arab countries like Algeria, which are strict and demanding, we in Syria use methods to encourage children to learn the Quran,” he added.

“Children who take Quranic courses in Syria first learn reading the Quran and Tajweed principles and after gaining mastery over them are allowed to start memorizing the Holy Book,” Tariq went on to say.
