TEHRAN (IQNA) –  The final round of Karbala Nat’l Quran Award in Iraq got underway in the holy city Tuesday.

The Quran satellite TV affiliated to the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine broadcasts the competition live.

The preliminary round was held on Wednesday.

The contenders in the categories of Quran memorization and Tafseer (interpretation) took a written exam to qualify for the main round.

In the other category, namely recitation, the participants submitted a recorded copy of their recitation of the Quran to the panel of judges.

The panel of judges evaluated the recitations and the exams, selecting the finalists.

Winners of the first and second ranks in each category will be awarded pilgrimage packages to the holy cities of Makkah in Saudi Arabia and Mashhad in Iran respectively while the ones who come third in each category will receive cash prizes.
