TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Goharshad Mosque in Mashhad, northeast Iran, is hosting the Itikaf (religious retreat) in the holy month of Ramadan.

Students of Khorasan Seminary School and Al-Mustafa International University have attended the spiritual ritual.

It will run until Monday, June 11.

The Goharshad Mosque is adjacent to the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS), the eighth Shia Imam.

Itikaf, in the Islamic faith, is a particularly commended pious practice consisting of a period of retreat in a mosque, for a certain number of days in accordance with the believer’s own wish.

Those taking part in the ritual sit in mosques and fast and pray God during the three days of Itikaf.
