Khartoum Quran Contest to Be Held with 70 Contenders

TEHRAN (IQNA) – An official with the organizing committee of Sudan’s 9th international Quran competition said 70 Quran memorizers will take part in the contest .

Maaz Fatih al-Hajj said the total number of the participants, who will compete in two separate sections for men and women, will be 70, the website of the Quran Society of Sudan reported.

He added that the contestants will also attend a number of sideline programs, including seminars and cultural events.

According to al-Hajj, the sideline programs will include lectures featuring the miracles of the Quran and Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Prominent Egyptian scholar Omar Abdul Kafi Shihatta  will deliver the speeches.

The 9th edition of Sudan’s international Quran competition, known as the Khartoum Award, is slated for January 5-13.

Mohammad Rasoul Takbiri will represent the Islamic Republic of Iran at the Quranic event.

Last year, 74 Quran memorizers from 55 countries took part in the competition’s 8th edition.
