TEHRAN (IQNA) – The representative of Libya won the top title in both categories of the 15th edition of Syed Junaid International Quran Award in Bahrain.

The closing ceremony of the Quranic event was held in Manama, Bahrain’s capital, on Wednesday night.

Top winners of the two categories were announced and awarded at the ceremony.

Abdul Rahman al-Bashir Salim from Libya bagged the top prize in the category of memorization of the entire Quran.

Omar Ahmed Hassan Agha from Syria and Muhammad Saeif al-Rahman Taqi from Bangladesh came second and third, respectively.

In recitation of the Quran, too, Libya’s al-Bashir came first. The runner-up was Faisal Alahi from Indonesia and the third rank went to Muhammad Shazani bin Jimmy from Malaysia.

The closing ceremony also included recitation of verses from the Quran by the top participants as well as senior Egyptian Qari Ahmed Ahmed Noaina, who was the competition’s guest of honor.

The contest had begun on November 18 with the participation of representatives from 54 countries.

Six Quran experts from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Egypt, Algeria and Chad were the members of the panel of judges.

The competition is annually organized by the Society for Serving the Holy Quran, which is based in Manama, in cooperation with Syed Junaid Alam Institute.
