Quran Exegesis Oldest Manuscript in Mauritania Library
TEHRAN (IQNA) – There are 2,500 manuscript books in the main library in the city of Oualata, Mauritania.
The oldest manuscripts kept in the library is an interpretation of the Holy Quran.
The Quran exegesis, whose author is unknown, dates back to the 5th century Hijri (12th century AD).
It is on display at the library’s Islamic Works Section.
Oualata or Walata a small oasis town in southeast Mauritania.
Many of the library’s manuscripts are a narrator of the history and civilizations of the desert region.
The Islamic Republic of Mauritania is a country in the Maghreb region of western North Africa.
The country’s population is estimated to be about 4 million and virtually all Mauritanians are Muslim.
